vision

thy kingdom come

As Christians we pray it.  We ask God to help make it to happen  in the here and the now.  But what is it?  What does this kingdom look like?  Jesus tells us that the kingdom is at hand and to see it we must have new eyes, the eyes of children.

At a worship service last Christmas we asked the ROJ children to make some Christmas cards to send along with some gifts we were collecting to help brighten  Christmas for the residents of a teen homeless shelter in our community.  The ROJ kids creatively crafted the Christmas cards while listening to the story being told of these teens who would not be spending Christmas with their families and loved ones.

At the end of the service the cards were collected and you can see one of these kingdom of God through the eyes of a child cards below.  As you can see in the card, in this child’s kingdom eyes it is unfathomable for another child to be separated from family on Christmas.  The only reason that a child would not be with family on Christmas was if the child was lost and needing to find their parents.

As a community we strive to make room for Christ to heal our brokenness and to mend the shattered relationships and the disconnectedness that is not a part of God’s kingdom dream for the world.  River of Joy exists to connect people to God’s beautiful kingdom vision that is ushered in by Christ and seen through the eyes of children.

River of Joy’s vision statement is an ancient one, thy kingdom come.  Our prayer is that this kingdom would come through us and to us as we engage the world creatively in following  Jesus together.
